City Council approves $115,879 state grant for police department

City Council · Meeting of February 2, 2026

Agawam City Council approves $115,879 state 911 grant for police department. The Finance Committee recommended the award unanimously, and the full council approved the Massachusetts State 911 Department grant 10-0 with one absent. The council also voted 10-0 to renew a Class 2 Dealer's License to Balfour Motors and 10-0 to authorize the Mayor to execute a deed to Assessor Parcel J3-1-43 on Cosgrove Street.

In contentious business, the council rejected the first reading of a domestic partnership ordinance sponsored by Councilor Thomas D. Hendrickson by a vote of 2-8, following a failed tabling motion and heated discussion over financial and language concerns.
