Agawam City Council approves fence height ordinance for first reading. The measure, sponsored by Council President Anthony J. Russo, increases the allowed height of non-frontal residential fences from 6.5 feet to 8 feet.

An amendment changing "public nuisance" to "private nuisance" passed 8 to 0 before the main motion advanced on a vote of 9 to 0 with two members absent. The Legislative Committee and Planning Board had both recommended approval. In separate action, the council unanimously approved a zone change for property at 430 North West Street from Business B District to Residence A-2 District on behalf of Chanda Care, Inc. and VIP Homes & Associates, LLC.

Two resolutions accepting a $15,042.80 donation and a $91,700 grant were referred to the Finance Committee.
