City Council approves solar leases and power agreements for six municipal buildings

Agawam City Council votes unanimously on renewable energy investments and municipal spending. The council approved lease and power purchase agreements with Solect Energy Development LLC for solar installations at six municipal facilities including Agawam High School, the Public Library, and four school buildings, along with a $236,616.34 appropriation from the Golf Stabilization Fund for course maintenance equipment. Finance Committee Chair Dino Mercadante reported positive 5-0 committee recommendations on all major items.
Councilor Cecilia Calabrese noted that excess solar power will be credited back to the grid, calling the arrangement beneficial to the city. The council also approved two additional budgetary transfers totaling $221,000 for electricity and solar costs, referred to the Finance Committee for the next agenda.
