Zoning Board approves tower variance with 25-foot setback condition.
Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of January 12, 2026
AGAWAM — Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a cellular monopole tower variance and special permit at 580 Main Street. Chair Doreen Prouty led the board in finding all three statutory variance conditions met, citing peer-reviewer approval and a technically superior site at Bethany Assembly of God over an alternative SBA tower location. The board voted unanimously to grant the special permit on condition the applicant relocate the monopole 25 feet from the proposed site, install a six-foot wooden fence, maintain a 20-foot buffer strip to the north and west, eliminate any simulated pine-tree appearance, and comply with town zoning ordinances on lighting and signage.
Attorneys for Verizon and Diamond Communications agreed to the relocation and conditions.
