Agawam School Committee Approves Superintendent Contract Extension, 11 Policies in Final Meeting
School Committee · Meeting of June 23, 2026
Agawam School Committee closes the school year with a new principal, an extended superintendent contract, and 11 policy approvals. The seven-member board, meeting June 23 with a full quorum, voted unanimously on every item before it, including SCR 26-52 extending the contract of Superintendent Martin, whose summative evaluation was rated proficient by six of seven committee members and exemplary by one. The board also introduced Elise Roy, a 10-year Agawam educator and former Clark School lead teacher, as the incoming principal of Granger School.
A year-end report from high school teacher Mr. Podorski on the school's therapy dog, Bailey, drew praise from all members; Mr. Perry said the program "costs our schools no dollars" while delivering an "immense" return.
The committee approved warrants totaling $4,159,168.37, including a payroll warrant of $3,669,187.73, and passed 11 policies in a single session — among them the new IMG-2 animals-in-schools therapy dog policy and three raffle-restriction updates aligning district policy with Massachusetts General Law. Finance Subcommittee member Mr. Christopher reported that the City Council approved the 2026-27 school budget with no program or position cuts.
