School Committee · Meeting of May 26, 2026
AGAWAM — Rosie Robotics students pressed Agawam's School Committee for lockable storage in the new high school. Nine students, mentors and supporters used citizen speak time to argue the 25-year-old FIRST Robotics program needs secured space for robots and materials worth tens of thousands of dollars, with junior Vincent Barrett estimating "$100,000 worth of materials" at risk. No vote was taken.
Separately, LPVEC executive director Alvin Morton reported career-technical enrollment hit 654 students, with 707 expected next year, which he said would be the collaborative's highest in 50 years, and said the agency landed a $3.7 million state grant to build a 13th program, in electrical work. The committee also approved five routine items 7-0, including renewing school choice participation for 2026-27 and year-end budget transfers, and welcomed incoming student representative Devin Soucy.
